Systems engineering

Energy-storage Battery Management System

From requirements to a working system

My role

Technical Project Lead / Control Systems Engineer

Period

2024.12 - Present

Focus

BMS / System architecture / Technical coordination

Starting with system requirements

I lead the full development lifecycle of an in-house BMS for utility-scale and commercial and industrial energy storage. The work spans hardware, embedded software, host software and field deployment.

My role extends beyond individual functions: I define system boundaries, organize development inputs and align the different subsystems around shared requirements.

Architecture and technical direction

I design system architecture, communication protocols and core control strategies. Analysis of competing products and technical benchmarking inform system-level evaluations, product direction and future iterations.

I also analyze compliance with IEC, UL and GB standards, plan certification activities, and prepare system requirements, product specifications and technical documentation.

Connecting development and validation

I coordinate development plans, milestones, design reviews and release reviews across hardware, software and testing teams. I identify technical and schedule risks, drive issue resolution, and incorporate system validation and field feedback into development.

Progress and results

Functions required by Chinese national standards have been developed and validated. The product has been deployed in multiple commercial and industrial storage R&D projects, laying the groundwork for product finalization and production. The project received a group-level Annual Innovation Award.
